At Louis Vuitton, The Future is Now

Upon explaining the inspiration behind Louis Vuitton’s FW16-17 collection, Nicolas Ghesquiere exclaimed he had an idea of a woman living in a digital era; someone mixing classic, athletic clothes with “fashion” pieces in order to accurately reflect what the women of today are wearing. Whatever the case, Ghesquiere’s show was certainly a breath of fresh air amongst what seemed to be a season full of endless references and more-than-evident imitation. While so many attempted to chase trends such as elongated sleeves, oversized hoodies, and historical grunginess, Ghesquiere looked elsewhere. This season’s Vuitton girl came strutting down the runway in long, multicolored maxi length dresses with athletic stripes and leather gloves. Pants with ankle side zips were shown with everything from leather coats to sporty mohair sweaters. Overall, what Ghesquiere presented for Louis Vuitton was a very firm statement full of practical, wearable, and most importantly, fun pieces.
