Clean start at Balenciaga
When Alexander Wang was appointed the head designer for the legendary fashion house, Balenciaga, I was more than skeptical of Wang’s ability to take on such an historic brand. Yes, he is extremely talented and has built quite a following at his eponymous line, but he is label is still very young. Not to mention, Wang has quite large shoes to fill, Nicolas Ghesquiere has been at Balenciaga for over a decade before his sudden departure from the fashion label.
Alexander Wang presented his first collection for Balenciaga today in Paris and he took this as an opportunity to start with a pallet cleanser. The clothes were mostly in monochrome colors and the silhouette is more pared down than in recent Balenciaga collections. Wang managed to in fused his love of street style, while also showing some beautiful ladylike shapes. In all, this was a very smart collection for Alexander, simple and didn’t stray too far from the Balenciaga code.
