THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART ORIENTALIST PAINTINGS FROM THE COLLECTION OF KENNETH JAY LANE metmuseum.org Orientalist art is my absolute favorite genre of art. This exhibit features amazingly done paintings of Africans and North Africans fashionably outfitted for the artist, which includes Horace Vernet (1789-1863) and Jean Louis Gerome 1824-1904.Both shared a deeply ingrained fascination for the cultures that thrived beyond the mediterranean, from Marocco in the west to Egypt and Turkey in the east.
