SPRINGS ARTISTIC ENDEAVOURS One of the top trends for spring summer 2014 is the influence of art on fashion led by the mega design houses of Celine, Dior and Prada. For these mega brands Fashion imitates art. At Celine with its painterly strokes and simple modern silhouettes, the shoes and accessories were the ones that ground the collection in its art reference. Namely Cubism. Celine presented shoes with a sphere heel and a skeletal rectangular heel and mules that retain that sculptural detail of a chunk of Marble and Malachite. Dior’s Dali inspired collection was all about surrealism. Drenched in acidic colors and morphed with space age shape and technology. The footbed of Dior’s shoes is equipped with memory foam technology, adding comfort to the foot of the wearer with time. The shoe itself resembles a couture version of a Nike Airmax with a stiletto heel and acidic flower detail. Prada’s spring collection was grounded in Pop art, that 60’s inspired silhouette with that odd mixture of colors, shape and print. Leave it to Prada to take it to the next level, mixing in that athletic influence for maximum performance. Fendi’s studded concoction is a morph between Mondrian and the 1950’s WPA. That angular use of shape and color mixed with that minimal industrial use of studs. There you have it. A lesson in art history brought to you by TWOmuchstyle. Therefore in your quest to be artistically dressed for spring, try these on for size. Celine is Available at Barneys New York, Blake and at Ikram. Prada is available at Prada, Saks Fifth Avenue and at Neiman Marcus. Fendi is available at Neiman Marcus and at Barneys New York. “TELL THEM I SENT YOU”
